
What Is Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, turned into a modern international sport that has been developed over 2000 years. All parts of the body are used, but are distinctive in its footwork and kicking style. The objective of this martial art is to improve all aspects of wellbeing – mind body and spirit. As the individual develops in their skills and fitness so too will their confidence. Taekwondo aims to emphasis values such as honour, respect, loyalty and compassion.

Always use good judgement before making a decision
Never use Taekwondo techniques on people outside of the Dojang

Taekwondo Etiquette
Head instructor addressed as: Kwan Jang Nim
Instructors: Sabom Nim
Bow to an instructor (feet together, bend forward and lower eyes to ground, instructor will return bow)
When entering Dojang show respect and bow at the entrance and exit.
If a class is underway bow and wait for acknowledgment before entering or leaving.
Bow towards the flag
After speaking to instructor bow as a form of acknowledgement and instructor will bow back
Pass behind the instructor not in front
Your Dobok (uniform) must always be clean and tidy
When adjusting dobok you must always turn away from the instructor
Bow when handing over equipment
Shoes removed before entering Dojang Fingernails and toenails are kept clean and short
Eating in Dojang is strictly prohibited
Do not lean against walls or stand with hands on hips – correct stance is with hands in front or behind your back and feet slightly apart Correct sitting position is with legs crossed, back straight and wrists on knees
Watches and jewellery are dangerous and not permitted
Do not use techniques outside the class except in self defence or to protect others
